Departure from Santiago

Leaving behind the imposing mountains and the Santiago Valley, we begin our journey to the coast. As we move forward, the urban setting gradually gives way to rural landscapes, bringing us closer to the serenity of the marine scenery and poetry.

"The wind is a horse:
hear how it gallops
over the sea, over the sky.
It wants to carry me: listen
how it sweeps the world
to take me far away"

(The Wind on the Island. The Captain’s Verses)

10:40 a.m.
Workshop at Inventando Papeles

We will learn about organic handmade paper at Victoria Aguirre’s workshop, a sensory experience of art and textures. We will attend a talk to understand the paper-making process from plant fibers like artichoke, onion, and wheat.
(Duration: 25 minutes). @taller_inventandopapeles

"Your leaves like swords in the garden,
the earth gathered its power
showing your naked transparency"

(Ode to the Onion, Elementary Odes)

11:20 a.m.
Our Lady of Mercy Chapel
El Totoral

We will visit the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, a colonial architectural gem dating back to 1815. Built with adobe and wood, its roof is made of clay tiles supported by carved pine and cypress beams.
(Duration: 15 minutes).

"A sermon without incense is like a seed
of flesh and light that falls trembling into the living furrow:
the Our Father, prayer of simple life,
has a taste of primal, fruitful bread..."

(This Church Has None, Crepusculario)

12:00 p.m.
Reception at Kurt & Mariró House

Our next stop will be the Kurt&Mariró house, a summer home built in the 1940s by architect Kurt Buchholtz and his wife Mariró. This place, preserved almost in its original state, offers a unique opportunity to experience the seaside life of Isla Negra from that era. During the reception, we will enjoy a snack.

"Love is so short, and forgetting is so long"

(Poem 20, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair)

12:30 p.m
Pablo Neruda's House Museum

Guided tour (audioguide) of the famous Pablo Neruda House Museum in Isla Negra, where the connection between the sea and his poetry becomes evident. Here we will discover collections related to the ocean, such as figureheads, miniature sailboats, seashells, and other curious objects treasured by the poet. We will also visit the museum shop.

"I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees"

(Poem 14, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair)

1:00 p.m.
Visit to Pablo Neruda's tomb

In front of the sea that inspired his work, we will visit the poet's tomb and that of his wife, Matilde Urrutia, who were moved to this place in 1992 in fulfillment of Neruda's last wishes. We will also enjoy the coastal landscape and explore a nearby craft market.

"Comrades, bury me in Isla Negra,
facing the sea I know"

(Provisions, General Song)

I would drink all the sea..."

Walk to Isla Negra and Las Conchitas beach

We will explore hidden trails among rocks leading to Isla Negra and Las Conchitas beach, where we can feel the intense energy of the Pacific Ocean. Those who wish may dip their feet or simply contemplate the captivating movement of the sea.

the sea and all that sea
overflows itself every moment...”

for your freedom, my wings are enough."
